Sunrise Smoothie

It’s been 2 weeks since my husband and I moved from Arizona to Colorado. It’s been a crazy 2 weeks filled with lots of running around, unpacking, looking for a house, finding a house, signing lots of papers, etc. Needless to say there hasn’t been a whole lot of time for messing around and creating new recipes. Aside from the lack of free time, the bigger problem is the joke of a kitchen in the apartment we are staying in right now. There is absolutely no countertop space, no storage, and the burners on the stove don’t lay flat so everything I try to cook slides to one side. There have been a lot of simple one pot meals, smoothies, cooking on the George Foreman grill, and eating at my Aunt and Uncle’s house lately. I am dying to get in to our new house at the end of the month so I can get back to my usual cooking routine and enjoy doing it too. One of the things I’ve been making my husband for breakfast in our cramped quarters are smoothies. This Sunrise Smoothie was delicious not to mention looks beautiful!

sunrise-smoothie I got the idea to do a layered smoothie watching the show Brunch at Bobby’s. I love brunch and thought this would be such a pretty refreshing drink to serve at one. Of course my husband and I aren’t hosting any brunches at our hole of an apartment, but I can definitely see us having some at the new house out on our amazing deck!

sunrise-smoothie The bottom yellow layer of this Sunrise Smoothie is a combination of pineapple, mango, almond milk, plain Greek yogurt, and honey. I made this layer first and then kept the glasses in the freezer while I made the top layer. The top layer is strawberries, banana, almond milk, plain Greek yogurt, and honey. I sprinkled the top with a little bit of shredded coconut which went perfect with the tropical flavor of this smoothie.

sunrise-smoothie This smoothie makes such a beautiful presentation with the layers of color. I found this Sunrise Smoothie to be a nice change from the usual smoothie. I enjoyed working my way from the pineapple mango layer up to the strawberry banana layer. If you are looking for a change from your usual smoothie routine give this one a try, it’s appealing to both your eyes and tastebuds!


Sunrise Smoothie

    Mango Pineapple Layer
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1/2 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1/2 cup frozen mango
  • 1/4 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 t. honey
  • Strawberry Banana Layer
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/4 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 t. honey


  1. Place all of the ingredients for the pineapple mango layer of the smoothie in the blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Pour the pineapple mango layer into 2 glasses and place in the freezer.
  3. Rinse out the blender and place all of the ingredients for the strawberry banana layer in it and blend until smooth.
  4. Pour the strawberry banana mixture on top of the pineapple mango mixture.
  5. Top with shredded coconut if desired.
  6. Serve immediately.

    This is beautiful and sounds tasty! Here in Arizona (wishing I were in Colorado!) we make smoothies a lot. I never thought of layering two flavors. I will definitely try this. Thanks, Danae.
