Can you guys believe that it’s already June?! It seems like Mother’s Day and my birthday were just a few days ago, and here it’s already been 3 weeks! Summer is starting to feel like it’s really here and with that will come day trips into the mountains for hiking and visiting the mountain ski towns of Colorado like Vail. This year for my birthday my husband and I took a quick trip to Vail to celebrate me being yet another year older.
We stayed at the Vail Cascade Resort which is a little over a mile from Vail Village. If you’ve never visited Vail added it to your list! Vail is a small town tucked away in the mountains about 100 miles from Denver. It’s the perfect escape for skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer. If you go during the week like we did you will avoid all the traffic and crowds that head up on the weekend. Our first trip to Vail was last October for our anniversary and it was also when we discovered the Vail Cascade Resort. We loved it so much the first time that I knew it was where I wanted to stay to celebrate my birthday. Because it was off-season we were able to score a great price on a room and found out that many of the restaurants that were open were offering 1/2 off prices for dinner.
During our stay we were put in a mountain facing room with a patio that walked right out onto the main resort deck that included a large fire pit for relaxing by and roasting marshmallows, a spa, and a heated pool that overlooks the Gore Creek. The Gore Creek runs along the back of the resort and is the perfect place for taking a walk or in my case a run. It was so peaceful to sit out on the patio and listen to the water rushing by.
Another ammenity the resort offered was a complimentary shuttle that ran every 15 minutes to Vail Village. This is perfect if you want to have a few drinks in the village or don’t want to deal with the hassle of parking. If you prefer to stay put at the resort there is a wonderful restaurant there called Atwater on Gore Creek along with the adjoining Fireside Bar. We spent most of our evening at the Fireside Bar enjoying a couple cocktails next to the fire, talking, and much to my husband’s enjoyment, watching the basketball game.
If you’re feeling like you overindulged a little the next morning and want to get a workout in, there is a huge athletic club and spa attached to the resort. I prefer to do my workout outside in the fresh morning air so running along the Gore Creek suited me just fine, I even saw a moose on my run!
If you are planning a trip to Colorado plan to make a stop in Vail and check out all of the amazing trails for hiking, the fantastic dining and shopping in Vail Village, skiing if you come in the winter, and if you plan to stay for a night or two, I highly recommend the Vail Cascade Resort for a relaxing getaway!
