With the start of a new year it’s time to make some new running goals. This isn’t something I usually do and it’s even less like me to write them down for others to see. I thought though that by doing this it would hold me more accountable and help me stay motivated to achieve them. I don’t have too many goals, but I am determined to meet the few that I have set. So, here they are in no particular order.
1. Break a 1:35 finish time in a half marathon. My first attempt at this will be at the Phoenix 1/2 Marathon on March 2nd. http://thephoenixmarathon.com
2. Run a marathon in a state other than Arizona or California. I’ve got my sights set on Oregon or Washington at the moment.
3. Focus on spending more time stretching and strengthening the weaker areas of my body, better known as my hamstrings, psoas, and glutes.
4. Get a new marathon PR. My current PR is 3:27:46. I got this new PR at the California International Marathon this past December. I know I should be happy I was able to PR at all considering the awful windy, rainy, and cold weather conditions, but part of me is disappointed because I know I could have done much better had the weather not been a factor. In other words I’m itching to go after a much faster time than what I currently have. Ideally I would like to knock 10 minutes off of the 3:27 time, fingers crossed I can stay healthy and injury free and I might just be able to do it!
So there you have it, my 2013 running goals. I am now committed to them, no backing out now! Do you set running goals for yourself, if so do you write them down or share them with anyone? Do you find that by doing this it helps you stick to them?
Here’s to a happy and healthy running year to all of you runners out there!
