Sun Basket Review and Giveaway

December 2, 2015 by Danae 14 Comments

Sun Basket is a new healthy meal kit service that delivers organic ingredients and delicious, easy-to-make recipes for cooking at home. They currently ship to CA, OR, WA, CO, UT, AZ, NV and ID.
Sun Basket Review and GiveawayI can’t believe it’s December and the holiday season is in full swing! I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to feel the pressure. Between shopping and making Christmas gifts for family and friends, working, and the usual household chores it’s already started to leave me drained. I thought the holidays were a time to relax and sit back and enjoy the season, yet it feels like the exact opposite. This year I’m trying to get ahead of the game so I’m not stressed out the last couple weeks before Christmas…I’ll let you know if I actually succeed, I have my doubts. One way I’ve discovered reduces a lot of stress when I’m so busy is not having to plan dinner or go to the grocery store. A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of trying out my first Sun Basket box and it was better tasting and more convenient than I could have ever imagined!

Sun Basket Review and GiveawayI’m sure you’ve all seen countless commercials for boxed meal kits that are sent to your house and all you have to do is prepare them. I’ll be honest, I’ve always been a little skeptical. I question the quality of the ingredients, the freshness and the flavor, not to mention how do I know it’s not just some Joe-schmo coming up with the recipe. When you get a box sent to you, you give up that control of being able to pick out the freshest and best produce and meat. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I opened up my Sun Basket box, actually I got a little giddy! Inside the box were three paper bags that contained everything I needed for each meal. Below are photos I took to show you how fresh and organized everything came.

Sun Basket Review and Giveaway Sun Basket Review and GiveawaySun Basket is a new San Francisco based company that  prides themselves in healthy meal kits filled with delicious ingredients and easy-to-make recipes. They provide menus suitable for gluten-free, Paleo and vegetarian diets so there is something for everyone. The kits come with organic non-GMO produce from West Coast farms and sustainably sourced, hormone-free meats and seafood.

Sun Basket Review and Giveaway | Pork stir-fry with green beans, peppers and Japanese sweet potatoAll of the recipes Sun Basket provides you with are developed by award-winning San Francisco chef, Justine Kelly, formerly the head chef at James Beard award-winning restaurant. You may be thinking someone with those credentials couldn’t possibly create a recipe that is easy for the average home cook. Guess what? She totally nailed it! These meals take on average 30 minutes to make and the clean up is so easy, most of my meals only required one pan. Another added bonus is that all of the recipes have been approved by Sun Basket’s in-house nutritionist so you can feel good about what you’re putting in your body.

Sun Basket Review and Giveaway | Almond-crusted cod with chermoula and lemon-cucumber olive saladI decided to try out the Paleo-friendly meal kit which included recipes for pork stir-fry with green beans, peppers and Japanese sweet potatoes, roast chicken with kale, apple and black-sesame toasted cashews, and almond-crusted cod with chermoula and lemon-cucumber olive salad. Just writing out the recipe names is making me hungry for it again! I received three meal kits that were meant to be two servings. These were generous servings and a couple of the meals I actually had leftovers for lunch the next day which was a pleasant surprise. If your family is larger you can customize the meal to feed four or even six. Each of the meals I received turned out delicious! I honestly loved each of them so much I can’t even choose a favorite! The directions on the recipe cards were easy to follow and none of the ingredients were missing. I couldn’t have been more pleased!

I've been skeptical about those meal-in-a-box places too - so I wish Sun Basket delivered in Atlanta - but they don't seem to yet - hopefully soon though! Those meals look absolutely delicious!
