Caesar Salad Recipe

This classic Caesar salad features romaine lettuce, baked garlic Parmesan croutons, shredded Parmesan cheese, and a creamy homemade Caesar dressing.

Ingredients

Croutons

  • 1/2 of a baguette, cut into 1/4 inch slices and quartered
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste, I used about 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3 tablespoons shredded parmesan cheese

Salad

  • 3 heads romaine hearts, chopped into bite-size pieces
  • 1/4 cup shredded parmesan cheese

Instructions

Croutons

  • Preheat oven to 350° F. and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Slice the baguette and cut it into cubes. Place the bread cubes into a mixing bowl. Combine the olive oil, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
  • Pour the olive oil mixture onto the bread cubes and sprinkle in the Parmesan cheese. Toss together until the bread is coated.
  • Dump the bread onto the prepared baking sheet. Spread the cubes into a single layer and place the baking sheet on the middle rack of the oven. Bake for 6 minutes then remove it from the oven and toss the bread cubes around. Bake for another 4-8 minutes or until they're golden and crisp.
  • Let them cool while you prepare the salad.

Caesar Salad Dressing

  • Combine all of the ingredients for the dressing in a bowl and whisk them together. Taste for seasoning. If the dressing is too thick, add a teaspoon of water at a time until your desired consistency is reached.
  • Store the dressing in a jar with a lid or other covered container in the refrigerator.

Assembling the Salad

  • Add the lettuce to a large salad bowl. Add in half of the dressing and Parmesan cheese and toss together.
  • Top the salad with the croutons, remaining Parmesan cheese, and additional dressing.
