Why you’ll love it

Healthy Caesar dressing – Classic Caesar dressing isn’t exactly what you’d classify as a “healthy”dressing. It’s quite high in calories and fat as far as dressings go. To make my Caesar dressing lighter I omitted the egg yolks, cut back on the oil, and reduced the amount of Parmesan cheese. Instead, Greek yogurt and a modest amount of mayo provide the rich and creamy consistency you expect from Caesar dressing.

No raw eggs – Consuming raw egg yolks comes with the risk of salmonella. While the risk is low, it’s not appealing or even an option for some people. Raw eggs have been replaced with Greek yogurt and mayo as the base of this dressing.

Creamy and flavorful – If you’re like me, you think thick and creamy when you think of Caesar dressing. Not only does Greek yogurt provide both of those things, but a little bit of tang as well. Freshly grated Parmesan, Worcestershire sauce, and lemon juice balance out the creaminess and give it a sharp, tangy flavor.

Ingredients for Caesar dressing in white bowls.

The ingredients

  • Plain Greek yogurt – I recommend using 2% or whole milk Greek yogurt for the best flavor and creamiest consistency.
  • Mayonnaise – Adds creaminess and gives you that rich flavor that egg yolks provide in classic Caesar dressing.
  • Lemon juice – Bright and tangy in flavor. Freshly squeezed lemon juice has the best flavor.
  • Olive oil – A must in salad dressings. It’s also a good source of healthy fats.
  • Worchestershire – Savory, tangy, and a great replacement for anchovies, which are traditionally used in Caesar dressing.
  • Dijon mustard – Adds a delicious tangy, zippy flavor to the dressing.
  • Garlic powder – I prefer to use garlic powder in dressings. Raw garlic tends to be a little harsh and can overpower the other flavors.
  • Parmesan cheese – Freshly grated Parmesan cheese from the block is a must for Caesar dressing. It provides the best salty and nutty flavor.

How to make healthy Caesar dressing

Add all of the ingredients to a bowl and whisk together until the dressing is smooth and creamy.

You could also do this in a food processor or blender if you want, but it isn’t necessary.

Ways to use Caesar salad dressing

  • Use it as a dip for veggies.
  • Add it to a wrap or as a sauce for a burger. It would be really good on these Caprese chicken burgers!
  • Use it as a chicken marinade. Marinate the chicken in the dressing for 1-2 hours and then remove it from the marinade and grill.

Storage

The dressing will keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Stir or shake the dressing before using.

Unfortunately, you can’t freeze Caesar dressing. Luckily, it tastes so good you shouldn’t have an issue using it in a week.

A note on Worcestershire sauce

Many Worcestershire sauces are made with anchovies (or sardines), which is why it works well as a replacement for anchovies in Caesar dressing. There are some that are made without anchovies, so be sure to read the ingredients label if this is an issue for you.

Can I make Caesar dressing without mayo?

Yes. If you don’t like mayo, replace it with an equal amount of Plain Greek yogurt.

Is Caesar salad dressing gluten-free?

This Caesar salad dressing is gluten-free, but you’ll need to check the label of the Worcestershire sauce. Some contain barley malt vinegar and/or soy sauce, which are not gluten-free.
