Bang bang sauce is a homemade creamy, sweet and spicy sauce made with just 4 ingredients and takes 5 or less minutes to make! This healthy bang bang sauce uses sweet chili sauce, mayo, Greek yogurt, and a little sriracha for a spicy kick. Traditionally made using only mayonnaise, but Greek yogurt makes the sauce lighter, adds protein, and it still tastes like the restaurant version. Use it on salads, rice bowls, tacos, burgers, or as a dipping sauce for fries!

Homemade bang bang sauce is a recipe I make all the time! I love having it on hand to use as a creamy drizzle or dip for chicken, shrimp, and steak. It became popular thanks to Bonefish Grill’s signature dish, bang bang shrimp. The first time I made it was for these Bang Bang Salmon Bowls. Honestly, it’s my favorite part of the bowls! Most bangbang sauce recipes only use sweet chili sauce, mayonnaise, and sriracha. I found that using just mayo was a bit heavy and since I like to use a lot of it, I wanted to make it lighter.
Substituting a portion of the mayo with plain Greek yogurt was the perfect solution. It makes the bang bang sauce even creamier, cuts down on fat and calories, adds protein, all without sacrificing any flavor. If you like creamy, sweet and spicy sauces, I know you’ll love this one!

Sweet chili sauce – Sweet chili sauce is primarily sweet, but it also has a bit of a tangy garlic flavor and chili flakes give it a spicy kick. There are multiple brands available, but this is the one I always use.
Mayonnaise – Use a good quality mayonnaise for the best flavor and a great creamy consistency. Some brands have sugar added to them, I recommend not using those since the sauce is already sweet. I love Chosen Foods avocado oil mayonnaise.
Greek yogurt – It’s my favorite addition to the bang bang sauce because it makes it extra creamy and is an easy way to make the sauce lighter without sacrificing flavor. You’ll want to use whole milk Greek yogurt for the best flavor. You can use low-fat as an alternative, but I would skip non-fat because it has a more tart flavor. You can also skip the Greek yogurt if you don’t like it and replace it with more mayonnaise.
Sriracha – This is where most of the heat in the sauce is coming from. Sriracha has a spicy, tangy, garlic flavor and elevates the flavor of the sauce. You can substitute with an equal amount of chili garlic sauce or chili crunch. The sauce is meant to be spicy, but you can cut back or eliminate the sriracha for a mild version.

Pro Tips
- Use a whisk to mix the sauce for the smoothest consistency. Because this is a small amount I like to use a mini whisk.
- Store the sauce in a jar with a reusable lid so it stays perfectly fresh.
Variations
- Adjust how spicy it is by using more or less sriracha.
- Squeeze in fresh lime juice or lemon juice to brighten the sauce and cut through the richness of the mayo and Greek yogurt.
- Add honey for a sweeter sauce.
- Add garlic. If you love garlic add a 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder or fresh garlic.
Ways to Use Bang Bang Sauce
There are endless ways to use bang bang sauce, but these are some of my favorite ways.
Dipping Sauce – It’s a great dipping sauce for fries, chips, and veggies. I also use it as a dip for garlic butter steak bites and spicy shrimp.
Salad Dressing – Swap your usual salad dressing with Bang bang sauce! I sometimes use it on this cheeseburger salad for a sweet and spicy kick.
Rice bowls – I almost always add a drizzle on top of rice bowls or poke bowls. Bang bang sauce works well of these spicy salmon bowls, Asian steak bowls, sweet chili salmon bowls, egg roll in a bowl, and salmon roll sushi bowls.
Tacos and burgers – Swap mayo or burger sauce for bang bang sauce. I also like to use it as a drizzle on top of these grilled fish tacos and shrimp tacos with creamy slaw.
How to Store Leftovers
- Store the leftover bang bang sauce in an airtight container for 5-6 days. Stir the sauce before using it if there’s any separation.
- Don’t freeze this sauce. It will break and have a watery, grainy texture once it’s defrosted.
