Today I’m sharing a spicy little number with you involving sriracha, pumpkin, and hummus. I know, sounds like an odd combination, but trust me on this, it’s full of flavor and makes a great dip for all the football games going on right now. Before we talk about the Sriracha Pumpkin Hummus, I’ll catch you up on what’s been happening in my life this week.

Sriracha Pumpkin Hummus | Recipe Runner | This spicy, smokey hummus will be a hit at your next party! #sriracha #pumpkinMy parents have been in town all week and just left yesterday afternoon. It’s funny how quickly a house can go from feeling full to empty. While the circumstances of them being here weren’t the best (my grandma passed away) it was so nice having them around. When my husband and I lived in Arizona we literally lived within 1/4 mile of my parents’ house, which also happened to be the house I grew up in. Living this close meant I got to see them all the time. Saturday mornings after my long runs were reserved for coffee dates with my mom. This was/is by far one of my favorite things to do with her. We always enjoy catching up over a cup of delicious hot coffee. Now that we don’t see each other as often, these dates are extra special to me. This past week while she was here, I took her to two of my new favorite coffee shops in Denver, Steam Espresso Bar and Stella’s Coffee. We enjoyed cappuccinos and lattes and of course good conversation. On top of coffee dates I was able to do one of my favorite things, cook dinner for them. Sometimes when it’s just my husband and I, it’s hard to get excited about cooking a nice dinner, but put guests in my house and I throw my heart and soul into cooking, trying to wow them with exciting new dishes. I cooked everything from risotto, to stir fry, to my delicious Chicken Enchilada Pizza. Needless to say they were all devoured and enjoyed. Of course now that my parents are gone, I’ve lost all motivation to cook something special for dinner tonight, so we’ll probably just eat the leftover stir fry and snack on the Sriracha Pumpkin Hummus.

Sriracha Pumpkin Hummus | Recipe Runner | This spicy, smokey hummus will be a hit at your next party! Speaking of this hummus, it is so easy to make! If you like spicy, slightly smokey flavors, then this hummus is sure to impress you. I made the hummus entirely in my Blendtec blender, but a food processor would work as well. To make the hummus simply add garbanzo beans, pumpkin puree, olive oil, lemon juice, cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic, sriracha, salt, and water to the blender. Then blend everything together until it is smooth and creamy. Serve the spicy hummus with pita chips or fresh vegetables and you have a wonderful, healthy snack or appetizer. When I get an afternoon craving, I find myself reaching for a couple of pita chips and dipping into this hummus. It’s super filling thanks to all the protein in the beans and is the perfect snack to hold me over until dinner.

Instead of picking up a container of hummus the next time you are at the store try making your own. It’s super easy, less expensive, way more flavor, and this sriracha pumpkin version is the perfect one to serve this fall!

Can I use white beans instead of chickpeas?

Absolutely Stephanie! When I make hummus sometimes I do use white beans instead if I don’t happen to have any chickpeas.
