Fire up the grill this weekend and make these Teriyaki Turkey Burgers with Grilled Pineapple and Onions. The grilled toppings on these burgers put them over the top!
I can’t believe the last weekend in May is nearly here! The schools had their last day yesterday which has significantly cut down on the traffic on my 5 minute drive to the gym in the morning…I know, it’s a rough life I lead. Whenever school get’s out it really makes it feel like summer has started even though it doesn’t officially start for almost another month. What better way to kick off summer vacation than with a Memorial Day barbecue and grilling up these Teriyaki Turkey Burgers with Grilled Pineapple and Onions!
We’ve been grilling pretty much everything for the past week and a half. Ever since it’s warmed up we can’t get enough grilled meats and vegetables. Grilled chicken and fish are on the menu at least 2-3 nights a week with grilled vegetables right along side them. I like to surprise my husband every now and then and grill up some burgers. He of course would prefer beef, but I’m more of a turkey burger kind of girl and if I’m doing the grilling I’m choosing what we’re eating.
My latest burgers were these Teriyaki Turkey Burgers with Grilled Pineapple and Onions. I love teriyaki anything so it only made sense to add it into the burger mix and use some of the extra as a sauce on top. I took an extra step and made my own teriyaki sauce so I could control the ingredients and sweetness of it. It’s a super easy sauce to make and only took a few extra minutes, plus it tastes awesome!
To add a ton of extra flavor to the turkey burgers I grilled some fresh pineapple and thick slices of red onions. I can’t stand raw onions, but I love them when they’re grilled, caramelized or sautéed. The flavor is much sweet and the potency of them disappears. If you’ve never grilled pineapple, just take my word and do it, you won’t regret it! The final flourish to this beauty of a burger is the avocado spread. Instead of mayo use this healthy and much tastier alternative. Avocado, Greek yogurt, lime, honey and salt and pepper are all you need to make this tasty topping. Let’s get our grill on this weekend and celebrate Memorial Day and school being out with these Teriyaki Turkey Burgers with Grilled Pineapple and Onions!

How many days will the homemade teriyaki sauce last for?
Hi Shannon, the sauce will keep for up to a week in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Looks tasty! What a great reminder to grill toppings along with the meat.
They add so much additional flavor!
I just wanted to say how glad I am that I found this recipe on Pinterest some time ago. This is one of my most favorite recipes ever! Whenever we have friends over in the summer, this is my go-to! Just wanted to thank you for sharing it and to let you know how much we enjoy it! :)
Hi Sarah! I’m so glad you and your friends like the burgers. They’re a must make for us in the summer too. Thank you for letting me know and for leaving such a kind comment! :-)
I made these for dinner and am eating one as I type. I will definitely make these again and soon!!!
Glad you liked the burgers Angela! I’m looking forward to making them again once it’s warm enough to grill!
My husband can’t have meat so I try to create as many unique turkey or chicken meals as I can so we don’t go crazy!
We made this for dinner the other night and OMG it was so good!
Since turkey is more watery than beef I find, I was a little nervous to put the turkey burgers on the grill since they seemed so soft and “gooey” but we added a tiny dusting of panko to the burgers and they turned out Perfect!
The teriyaki sauce made the dish! I don’t think it would have been the same if we bought the sauce.
We also toasted brioche rolls on the grill!
Thank you so much for the recipe! Definitely a keeper!
Would these be just as good if cooked stovetop? Would i need to adjust anything in the recipe?
Hi Ash. The turkey burgers can definitely be made on the stovetop, I actually do that a lot in the winter. As far as the grilled pineapple and onions, if you have a grill pan I think you’ll be fine, but if you’re just using a skillet I don’t think you’ll get the same result that you would using a grill. You shouldn’t need to make any adjustments to the recipe.
Grilled pineapple is seriously so good. I love the idea of putting it on top of a turkey burger!
Grilled pineapple really is awesome isn’t it! Perfect summer burger topping!
Oh my goodness, this burger looks absolutely wonderful! YUM!
Thanks Marye!
We love grilling out in this warmer weather ourselves. These burgers look incredible–adding to our list to try!
Thanks Kristen! Grilling really is the best way to cook when it’s warm outside. :-)
Love that you made your own teriyaki sauce for these beautiful burgers! Amazing flavors here!
Thanks Taylor! Homemade is always better, even if it takes a little more time. :-)
I’m ready for the holiday weekend and I’m also ready for one of these burgers! We have been using the grill as often as possible lately because the weather is so nice so I definitely need to add these to our burger rotation. I love topping my burgers with pineapple!
Thanks Ashley! I love the sweetness grilled pineapple adds to the burger!
