The ingredients

  • Phyllo shells – You can find these pre-baked mini phyllo shells in the freezer section at the grocery store near the puff pastry.
  • Brie cheese – A soft cow’s milk cheese. It’s creamy, mild in flavor, and has a rind around it which can be eaten or cut off if you prefer.
  • Fig jam – Sweet with notes of honey in the flavor.
  • Pecans – Toasted pecans add a nice nutty, crunchy element to the appetizer.

How to make baked brie fig jam bites

Preheat your oven to 400° F. Place the phyllo shells onto a baking sheet.

Cut the rind off of the brie (or leave it on if you don’t mind it) then cut it into approximately 1/2 inch cubes. Place the cubes of brie into the mini phyllo shells.

Bake for 5 minutes then immediately top with a dollop of fig jam when they come out of the oven. Sprinkle with toasted chopped pecans and serve.

Variations

  • If you aren’t a fan of fig jam try topping them with raspberry, apricot or something more adventurous and spicy like blackberry jalapeño jam.
  • Drizzle with honey instead of jam.
  • Swap pecans for toasted sliced almonds, walnuts or pistachio.
  • Make them spicy and dollop on some chili crunch.

Pro tip

Put the brie in the freezer for 15-20 minutes before cutting it. Since it’s such a soft cheese, It’s much easier to cut when it’s partially frozen.

Can baked brie phyllo cups be made ahead of time?

You can cube the brie ahead of time, but don’t assemble until your ready to bake them. The phyllo shells will soften and won’t be crunchy if made ahead of time.

Are phyllo shells gluten-free?

Unfortunately they are not gluten-free. I recommend making this apple brie crostini on gluten-free bread as an alternative.

can these be made ahead of time – say like the night before an event? really looking forward to trying these…

Hi Tere, Unfortunately they are best made and eaten the same day. They really don’t take long to make at all especially if you cut the brie the night before.

      Hi Margo,

I have made my own fig jam before, but only when figs are fresh. For this recipe I bought my jam at Whole Foods.
