Add a wintery twist to traditional mimosas by adding in fresh cranberry simple syrup! Not only does it add wonderful flavor, but turns these Cranberry Orange Mimosas a beautiful color!
Christmas morning is probably my favorite morning of the year. I always wake up filled with excitement no matter how old I get. Of course I’ve learned to contain it a little better compared to when I was a kid.
I can remember waking up before the sun was up and impatiently waiting for my dad to wake up so we could get started opening presents and eating Christmas breakfast. He never got up early enough for me so I would resort to sending in the dog to wake him up.
I would throw a dog treat up on the bed, then race out of the room shutting the door behind me and leaving the dog in there to jump up on the bed and of course wake my dad up. I was so sneaky.
Now that I’m grown up…sort of, it’s just my husband who I have to drag out of bed (the cats are up as soon as I put my foot on the floor) so we can get the festivities started. Luckily I have my running to keep me busy for a while in the mornings so my poor husband at least gets to sleep until the sun is up.
Of course I’m still as excited to open presents as I was when I was a kid, but I’m even more excited to have a special breakfast complete with these festive Cranberry Orange Mimosas! Normally I make my mom’s Christmas morning smoothie, but this year I decided to change things up and go the mimosa route.
Traditionally mimosas are orange juice and champagne, but to give them a little twist I made cranberry simple syrup to add in as well. The cranberry simple syrup not only give it wonderful flavor, but turns the mimosa into a beautiful color similar to a sunrise! After topping off the mimosas with champagne or in this case prosecco, garnish the drink with a slice of orange and a few cranberries. It’s the perfect drink to start the morning festivities with! Cheers and have a Merry Christmas friends!
