Strawberries, raspberries and blueberries blended together with Greek yogurt in this thick and delicious Triple Berry Layered Smoothie! A healthy and delicious way to cool off on a warm day!
It’s getting close to that time of year again where I start craving smoothies. During the colder months of the year when I get home from running in the morning I look forward to a hot shower and my cup of coffee. However, after sweating for an hour a cold, creamy, fruity smoothie really hits the spot. This past weekend I was able to run in shorts and Saturday was the first time in months that I craved a smoothie. It was the perfect time to go all out and make this Triple Berry Layered Smoothie!
I’ve been crazy obsessed with berries lately and every time they’re on sale I buy a few boxes. I usually eat half of them fresh then stick the remaining in the freezer to use for smoothies like this berry loaded one. Normally I don’t get all fancy and layer my smoothies because let’s be honest, who’s got time for that during the week. On the weekend though I like to have a little fun with my food and drinks.
This Triple Berry Layered Smoothie like the name suggests has three types of berries in it. The bottom layer is blueberries and the top layer is a combination of strawberries and raspberries. Originally there were going to be three layers in this smoothie, but I found myself getting too impatient making all those layers and figured if I felt this way you guys probably would too.
The trick to making a layered smoothie is to make it super thick. If the bottom layer isn’t thick enough the top layer will sink right down into it and you’ll just have a big mess. It will still taste great, but you’ll have a total layer fail and wonder why you wasted your time. To keep the smoothie ultra thick I made sure to use frozen berries, Greek yogurt and a minimal amount of milk. These triple berry smoothies not only make a nice weekend breakfast or snack, but would be so pretty to make for brunch for mom on Mother’s Day!
