Why you’ll love it
No mystery ingredients – Have you ever looked at the ingredients label of store-bought ranch dressing and wondered what half of them were? Well, you won’t have that problem when you make this homemade ranch dressing!
Flavorful – Fresh herbs, dried spices, and lemon juice give this dressing tons of fresh flavor!
Easy to make – I like to use a food processor to make this dressing, however you can absolutely just whisk everything together. Just make sure you chop the herbs extra fine.
The ingredients
- Plain Greek yogurt – Reduced-fat or full-fat Greek yogurt is best and will give the dressing the creamiest consistency and richest flavor.
- Mayonnaise – Use a good quality mayo. I always use Chosen Foods avocado oil mayo.
- Milk, buttermilk, or water – Any of these liquids will work to loosen the dressing. Buttermilk is classically used in ranch dressing, but it’s also something most people rarely have on hand. I usually just use water.
- Lemon juice – Fresh squeezed lemon juice is a must.
- Worcestershire – Adds a savory, tangy, umami flavor to the dressing.
- Chives and cilantro – Fresh herbs provide a flavor that can’t be replicated in store-bought dressing.
- Garlic and onion powder – Dried spices found in ranch dressing.

- Use it as a dip for veggies, chips, or crackers.
- Use it as a dipping sauce for these everything bagel chicken tenders.

Storage
Homemade ranch dressing will keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
The dressing may separate. If this happens, whisk or stir until it smooth and creamy.
Low calorie ranch dressing FAQs
Can I make ranch dressing without a food processor?
Yes. You can use a blender or finely chop the herbs and whisk everything together in a bowl until smooth.
Can ranch dressing be frozen?
No. Due to all the dairy in this dressing it won’t freeze well. Once defrosted it will separate and the texture won’t be the same.
What can cilantro be replaced with?
Replace the cilantro with an equal amount of flat leaf parsley.
Is homemade ranch dressing gluten-free?
If you’re using a gluten-free Worcestershire sauce, the dressing is gluten-free. Check the label as some Worcestershire sauce is made with malt vinegar, which is not gluten-free.
