Why you’ll love it

3 ingredients – Some cocktails call for a ridiculous amount of ingredients, some of which you’ll only use once. This limoncello cocktail only uses three, making it quite affordable and practical.

Refreshing lemon cocktail – There’s something about warm weather and lemon drinks that’s so appealing. The flavor is bright and zesty, they’re refreshing, and you can’t beat the color!

Summer entertaining – Whether you’re making this cocktail for yourself, to enjoy with friends out on the patio, or for a weekend brunch, it’s a sweet bubbly drink everyone will love!

What is limoncello

Limoncello is an Italian lemon liqueur that’s primarily produced in the southern part of Italy. This popular liqueur is often served cold as an after-dinner digestivo. It’s also used as an ingredient in many cocktails and can be used in desserts.

The flavor of limoncello is sweet, citrusy, and there’s a strong lemon aroma. It isn’t acidic in flavor since only lemon peel is used to make it and not lemon juice.

The ingredients

Limoncello – There are a few brands of limoncello out there. I enjoy the flavor of Il Tramonto Limoncello brand the best.

Prosecco – Prosecco is essentially the Italian version of champagne. Alternatively, you can use Champagne or Cava in place of Prosecco.

Sparkling water – Sparkling water (without flavor) dilutes the strength of the drink and gives it extra bubbles. Feel free to use more than the recipe calls for if the flavor is too strong for you.

Lemon slices and mint – These are optional garnishes, but they make for a pretty presentation!

How to make limoncello spritz

This is a 3-2-1 cocktail, similar to a margarita or Aperol spritz. 3 parts Prosecco, 2 parts limoncello, 1 part sparkling water.

Fill a glass half full with ice. I like to use a coupe glass, but a low ball glass, or stemless wine glass works great as well.

Pour in the limoncello and Prosecco. Top with sparkling water and garnish with a slice of lemon and a sprig of fresh mint.

Tip

A 750 ml bottle of Prosecco is 25 ounces, which is enough for 8 cocktails.

How much does limoncello cost?

Limoncello is an affordable liqueur that can be found at most liquor stores. It costs about $20 a bottle.
